Organizations We Support

At True Course Counseling, our practice deeply values giving back and uplifting local organizations to help make positive, lasting impacts on those facing difficulties. Through financial contributions and volunteer efforts, we partner with incredible non-profits whose missions align with our own—providing compassionate care, empowering personal growth, and creating more equitable communities for all.

Shelter KC

Shelter KC is a Christ-centered rescue mission founded in 1950 with the crucial goal of serving Kansas City’s homeless population with dignity and transformational support. Their emergency shelters provide safe haven along with nutritious meals, clean facilities, personalized case management, and long-term recovery programs. Shelter KC emphasizes treating everyone with respect as they work to overcome homelessness, addiction, poverty, and past trauma. Their holistic services like job training, education, and chaplaincy all aim to empower individuals to achieve self-sufficiency and their full potential.

SAVE, Inc.

For over 35 years, SAVE, Inc. has operated on the fundamental belief that housing is a basic human right. This non-profit offers comprehensive housing solutions including permanent, transitional, and emergency residences for Kansas City’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged populations. Their compassionate services support those impacted by HIV/AIDS, substance abuse disorders, mental health conditions, and more. SAVE, Inc. remains committed to ending homelessness and discrimination in housing through their tailored programs providing stability, dignity, and pathways to improved health.

DwellingWell Foundation

The DwellingWell Foundation recognizes how a safe, well-maintained home creates the foundation for resilient individuals and strong communities. This grassroots organization provides free, critical exterior home repairs for low-income homeowners facing challenges like structural damage, severe weather impacts, or deferred maintenance. Their licensed professionals and volunteers work tirelessly to repair homes and fortify homes against future difficulties. Through their commitment to craftsmanship and community support, they help families retain their greatest assets while fostering prideful neighborhoods.

Girls on the Fly

This unique non-profit introduces young girls to the empowering experience of fly fishing as a catalyst for building confidence, leadership skills, and environmental stewardship. Girls on the Fly’s innovative, outdoors-based curriculum integrates fly fishing instruction with lessons on resilience, peer support, coping strategies, mind-body connection, and more. By conquering new challenges in nature, participants develop greater self-esteem while forming bonds with mentors and one another. The organization aims to create a lasting impact by equipping girls with strengths for navigating all life’s adventures.

Sienna Art Studios

Sienna Art Studios captures the beauty of the natural world through hand-drawn numberism illustrations, created entirely with data that describes their subjects. Each piece takes around 50 hours to draw and up to a year to research, inviting viewers to look closer and ask meaningful questions about the sciences. The artist, who overcame math anxiety through this process, collaborates with teachers, scientists, and students to ensure scientific accuracy and inspire curiosity about the natural world.

“Haley offers me new perspective on patterns in my life and helps me dig into how I actually feel about something, which I'm not able to do on my own. She has put effort into understanding my thinking and habits and is able to point out areas where I could reframe my mindset or expectations of others.”

“I really value leaving the appointment with phrases and ideas to recall when I’m dealing with a challenge. I think the most helpful thing I’ve gained working with Laura is better coping skills and communication skills.”

“I enjoy Megan's open mind and also how she never seems frustrated or unhappy when it takes me several rambling sentences to try to get to a point. She also asks excellent follow up to clarify things and does not appear annoyed when she asks if I am talking about feeling X, and I have to say no, it is more like Y. I feel respected even when talking about very difficult things.”

“Laura has been able to provide fantastic solutions that have helped me better address my anxiety and improved the communications in my relationships. Laura does a fantastic job of really listening and ensuring progress is being made in a meaningful way.”

“To me, Megan takes into consideration what is important in my life, and instead of suggesting removing things that are meaningful but difficult, makes suggestions on lowering my stress around those things. When she does see my growth, which is often harder for me to see, she will point out how I may have reacted to a situation or trigger a year or two ago, and then helps me see for myself the growth in my reaction, my boundaries, etc”
